Osprey Mix & Match Codes

Osprey Mix & Match Codes

Background

This file maintenance routine is used to setup all of the possible mix & match pricing schemes. Mix And Match Codes allow various and differently priced items to be sold in promotional schemes at a fixed total price. Examples are a 3 for $10.00 wine bin, or 3 cans of different variety soup products for $1.49. These products can then be entered or scanned at point-of-sale in any order throughout the sale with pricing integrity insured.  Mix & Match codes are assigned via Item Maintenance.

Mix & Match Codes Configuration

The Mix & Match maintenance screen is located under Items and then Item Codes

Key Fields:

  • MixCode -  Enter up to a 3-character unique alphanumeric code that will be used to retrieve this record from the database.

Other Fields:

  • Description - Enter up to a 20-character description characterizing this mix and match pricing promotion.

  • Type - Select from this combo-box the type of Mix And Match scheme that will be used. The currently supported types are as follows:

    • Type 1 Fixed Price - This Mix And Match scheme prices all items at the same price, with the last item in the scheme making up the difference to reach the total price. For example, 12oz cans of soup are normally priced at a $1.09 per can, but in the promotion are priced at 3 for $2.99. The first and second cans sell for $1.09 each, the third can always sells for .81 cents.

    • Type 2 Variable Price - The Variable Price scheme allows items to be priced differently, with the final item, no matter what it is, being sold at the price necessary to make up the difference. For example, a wine bin of mixed varieties comprise a 3 for $10.00 Variable Price scheme. Each item has its own selling price; the first bottle sells for $3.89, the second bottle sells for $4.29, and the last bottle which normally sells for $3.49 sells for $1.82 to make up the difference of $10.00.

    • Type 3 % Discount - This Mix And Match scheme gives an automatic percentage discount to all the eligible items rung up in a single customer sales transaction when the programmed quantity is reached. This scheme is very useful in liquor stores where mixed case discounts are a normal way of doing business.

    • Type 4 Leading Discount - Through the use of Leading Discount, you may specify an initial price and a subsequent price at which an item will ring up in a sales transaction.  This permits you to configure sales such as "Buy One Get Three Free", or "On sale for $0.99, get the first one for $0.25".

    • Type 5 Fixed Price Array - This allows for setting the mix/match values for particular items - for example $1.25 for items 1 and 2, $.99 for items 3, 4, and 5, $1.10 for items 6 and 7, and so on.

    • Type 6 Multipack Discount Type 1 - This Mix And Match scheme allows for a discount to be given after a particular quantity has been purchased.  An example would be $1.00 off of 3 items.  The discount is repeatable so that if six items are purchased in the prior example, each set of 3 would be $1.00 off.  This permits enables the Retail Funded / Manufacturer Funded radio set to determine what type of Mix/Match is being used.

    • Type 7 Multipack Discount Type 2 - This Mix And Match scheme allows for a discount to be given after a particular quantity has been purchased.  Where it differs from the Type 6 code is that once the particular quantity has been reached, all of the items are discounted, both going forward as well as ones that were rang to get to the threshold, please see below for more information.  This permits enables the Retail Funded / Manufacturer Funded radio set to determine what type of Mix/Match is being used.

    • Type 8 Buy One Get One - This scheme allows for a "Buy X get 1 free/discounted" type of discounting.

    • Type 9 Buy One Get One (SUBTOTAL) - This scheme is similar to the Type 8 with the difference being the discount is applied when the cashier presses the <TOTAL> key. The downside to using this type is the customer will not see the discount until TOTAL time and the TOTAL BOGO discount for all items in a mix scheme will be consolidated into one discount total. The upside to using this type is the guarantee of the lowest priced items being discounted across the entire POS transaction that is in the same Mix and Match Scheme. This type is only supported in the flagship POS module and not the OspreyMobile POS module. In addition, this type of mix and match discount will NOT net any EWIC item that has been sold in the POS transaction.

When using Type 8 BOGO, a line discount modifier must be setup on the mix/match to account for the free item.

When using Type 9 BOGO (SUBTOTAL), a sale discount modifier must be setup on the mix/match to account for the TOTAL BOGO discount of all items. Make sure to assign a unique Itemizer Number on the Sale Discount record.

  • Quantity - Enter the quantity contained in the mix and match pricing promotion. An entry must be made here to insure correct operation of the scheme.

When using Type 8 BOGO or Type 9 BOGO (SUBTOTAL), this is the amount of item(s) that must be purchased in order to obtain the free/discounted item.  So a quantity of 2, means purchase 1, get 1 free/discounted.  A quantity of 3, means purchase 2, get 1 free/discounted.

  • Item Price - Enter the retail price that is the fixed price of each item in the mix and match promotion.  Changes to First Price when using Type 4 Leading Discount.

Only used for Type 1 Fixed Price and Type 4 Leading Discount types.

  • Total Price - Enter a retail price up to 9999.99 that is the total fixed price of the mix and match promotion.  Changes to Subsequent Price when using Type 4 Leading Discount.

NOT used for Type 3 % Discount types.

  • ModifierNum - Select the discount record you wish to use to store the mix and match discount totals.

The following should be reviewed for the discount record selected.

For a Type 3 % Discount, remember not to select a "discount type" (line, sale, automatic, or cost plus).

For a Type 8 BOGO make sure to select “Line Discount” for the “discount type”

For a Type 9 BOGO (SUBTOTAL) make sure to select “Sale Discount” for the “discount type”.

DO NOT select a key location for the discount that will be used in the percentage discount type mix and match.

Only used for Type 3 % Discount, Type 8 BOGO and Type 9 BOGO (SUBTOTAL) types.

  • Use Limit - This is the maximum number of times this mix & match code may issue the "Leading Discount". Enter the number zero for no limit. If this number is greater than zero, then the mix & match code will render the "Leading Discount" no more than this many times. Once the limit has been reached, the item will ring at its normal retail price and the mix & match code will in essence be disabled for the remainder of the sales transaction.

  • MultiPackType - Choose either Retailer or Manufacturer funded.

Only used for Type 6/7 Discount types.

  • Staydown - This will control whether a type “3” mix and match scheme will continue to issue the discount once the mix quantity has been reached. During a database conversion to 11.7.103, this field will be set to true for all existing type “3” codes.

Only used for Type 3 Discount types.

  • Qty <x> Price - These fields are only used with a Type 5 Fixed Price Array type of mix and match and they specify the specific price(s) for particular items.

Mix & Match Codes Considerations

Split Pricing

Mix and Match CANNOT be used with split pricing. Only one can be taken into consideration and split pricing has priority. So if an item is set for both split pricing AND Mix/Match, then the split pricing is what will be used.

Mix And Match Type 7 Process:

When using a Type 7, when the threshold is reached and the discount is applied to prior items, the prior items are not recalculated.  But rather the item that broke the threshold is discounted enough to account for them.  So in the case of a Type 7 of $1.00 off of 4 items that are normally $10/each the following would occur:

Item 1:  $10.00

Item 2:  $10.00

Item 3:  $10.00

Item 4:  $ 6.00

Item 5:  $ 9.00

....

Item x:  $ 9.00

In the above case, the first three items were at regular price as the Mix And Match threshold had not been met.  When the 4th item was rang up and the threshold crossed, it was reduced by $1.00 for the Mix And Match code, plus an additional $3.00 for the prior items ($1.00 x 3).  Subsequent item(s) rang at $9.00 each ($1.00 off).
